Summary of Job Description:

The Sales Tax Accountant coordinates and reviews the filing of more than 400 sales and use tax returns, including state and local tax audits. This position analyzes tax assessments and calculates customer liabilities to identify and secure tax credits for the company based on sales activity.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the filing of 400-plus tax returns with consultants. Analyzes assessments and calculates customer liability to achieve tax credits for the company. Oversees the filing of Guam Gross Receipts Tax, Canada GST/HST and the reporting of international inventory purchases.
  • Identifies and accrues sales/use tax liabilities on fixed assets. Provides support to stakeholders for tax accruals in Autodesk system.
  • Coordinates state and local tax audits conducted by statutory auditors, gathering needed data and documentation and reviewing preliminary findings. Performs reverse audits to identify tax savings opportunities. 
  • Monitors and coordinates tax rate changes in the company’s financial enterprise system and in the POS system. Oversee records for customer exemption and vendor resale certificate.
  • Reconciles sales/use tax accrual accounts and prepares journal entries to book tax payments periodically. Reconciles monthly billing from SUT compliance and payment provider.
  • Resolves internal and external customer inquiries and issues related to sales/use tax. Stays up to date with industry developments and performs research on best practices and trends.
  • Participates in special projects and proactively seeks to improve departmental processes.

Your background & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with coursework in Accounting/Tax required
  • 3+ years of accounting/tax experience, preferably in a retail/hospitality environment and/or multi-state organization
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.


Pay Range: P2: $72,500 - $101,500 / Annual

* Within the range, individual pay is determined using various factors, including work location and experience.
